Previous Work

Here is a small showcase of some artwork that I have done previously. Since I have not taken any art classes at the University of Toledo and my high school classes were a four years ago now, I decided to use some art that I've done in my free time.

I primarily enjoy drawing and sketching, so my first work is an attempt at a realistic sketch of a human eye from some time ago:

As I mentioned in my introduction, I enjoy working with kids. I want to take my art in a direction that coincides with that as well. Here's one of my attempts at some concept drawings for a cartoon-style dog character:

While I by no means am a photographer, I wanted to include a picture that I took because of how the content inspires me. I draw a lot of inspiration from animals and nature, and I really like the contrast between the blurred background and the clear dragonfly & fishing pole in this picture:

These are just a little sample of what I'm coming into the class with. It's a bit limited, being that I haven't taken any art courses while in college, but I was able to find some art done in my free time.

Introduction

My name is Zachary Mercurio and I am currently a senior at the University of Toledo. I am studying Psychology, but have always had some kind of interest in art. More specifically, I enjoy sketching and drawing. I plan on becoming a School Psychologist one day and I love to work with kids, so I've always thought it would be cool to get into illustrating and writing children's books and/or comics. I have not taken any previous art classes at the University of Toledo, but I did quite a few art classes back in high school. I look forward to learning new art methods this semester!
